I said yes!
I've been pondering lately, amidst the busyness of my life...am I a good mom? It's struck me a few times as we run from one soccer game to another, from school to gymnastics, to Weight Watchers to tee ball...is it too much?
Don't answer that. I know it probably is, but it's become our life. My kids love it most days, and I do too...most days. But, what are we missing out on? What simplicities are we taking for granted as we run through the Golden Arches again?!?
I am thankful that my job affords me summers off, but sometimes I want the chance to be home, with my kids, in May...or January...or October.
So much of our time home makes me feel like a drill sargeant.
Let's do homework.
Clean up the playroom.
Do your Chores.
Brush you teeth.
Feed the dog.
Get the laundry out.
When can we just play??
Well...tonight Kathryn decided for me.
She got the gallon pitcher out, and made up a fresh pitcher of Crystal Light.
She said she wanted to have a lemonade stand.
My first thought was...Seriously??? On a Thursday night at 6:00????
But we don't have napkins. We only have a few cups. We don't have a table set up.
But instead of squelching her obvious excitement, instead of getting caught up in making the taco salad for dinner, instead of putting a load of laundry in the newly fixed (YES MY NEW WASHER!) washer,
I SAID YES!
This was a big accomplishment for me!
And you know what? They had a BLAST!
Kathryn had the whole thing set up. And our wonderful neighbors graciously stopped and happily enjoyed a cup of Crystal light.
Most of them said, "Keep the change!" Do you know what kind of smiles my kids were donning tonight?
It was a precious memory for all of us. And tonight, it's because I said Yes. And I'm thankful!
