The Gift of Great Grandma

Today we went to visit Tim's grandma.  She is 88 years old!  We were reflecting today on the fact that she is 50...yes 50 years older than me!!  She is 80..yes 80 years older than Kathryn.

I love that Kathryn is named after our precious grandma.  She is getting more frail, but still so warm and always welcoming us into her home.  She LOVES visitors.  I always feel badly that we don't get over there much.

We had spent the afternoon at the park nearby, and then called to see if she'd like some dinner and company.  I asked her what she'd like, and she said a hamburger!

Now..that was easy to deliver.  We had wonderful conversation although many of her questions were re-asked multiple times.  She is still smart as a whip, and remembers very vivid things at times.  She was VERY curious about Tim's fishing expeditions.  She seems to hold on  with interest to every detail.

It's sad in some ways to see her becoming forgetful, and frail.  But I love the sparkle in her eye.  I love her genuine spirit, and her pure love for her family and God.  She is such a special lady.  We are thankful for the gift of her!

I asked her tonight about her favorite memory as a kid.  She told of playing in the ash pile from the fire!  She said they always got in trouble, but she loved it.  She always speaks with fondness of her childhood and her time in Vulcan Canada.  What precious memories...especially when I think about the fact that she is remembering things that happened 80 years ago!  It makes me a little more forgiving of the things she forgets in the present.

I love this woman like my own grandmother.  I am thankful to have a daughter with her namesake.  She is such a gift to us.  We love you Grandma!

Summer continues!

A learning experience...I've been playing around with the video option on my camera, and clearly it takes fine video...it's just a matter of the operator not knowing how to hold the camera...oh well!

This girl can crack me up!  What a ham!

Synchronized diving!

BUDDIES!

We were blessed to be invited to a friend's house to swim in their amazing pool.  The girls had a BLAST!  We would love to have a pool like this someday!  It was a beautiful day and I love watching my kids have so much fun.  Summer is such a gift!

A girl and her pup...

Kaelyn was playing with Tate the other day. She was blowing bubbles for him, and he was LOVING it! It was so funny! At first, he was afraid of them, but eventually, he would dive at every one of them and try to eat them and pop them!

Getting ready!

I LOVE this picturre...it totally captures how much he was waiting for her to give him some more bubble action!

Get it Tate!

An encouraging verse today...

God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him. In this way, love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment, because in this world we are like him.
1John4:16b, 17

Lord...please help me to be more like you today...and tomorrow!

4th of July!

We had our annual 4th of july party...the weather was cold, but we had a great time!  The trampoline provided a great amount of entertainment.  Unfortunately, I do not have photos of Kathy, Scott and Jill attempting their acrobatic moves, but let me tell ya...it was entertaining!

Ready to go!

Garlic shrimp!  Yummy!  (Love the handsome chef too!)

It's pretty fun to watch your mom try and do flips on the trampline!  Pure joy huh?

Ready for Smores!

The kids decided to dip in the pool even though the temp outside was less than 60 degrees and the pool wasn't much warmer!  They had a blast!

The viewing area for fireworks!

Our buddies!

Quinn LOVED the fireworks...they're a little worried she liked it too much!

Happy 4th of July!

The Kids!

My Roomies!

We got together for a "family  reunion" last weekend.  It was so great to be together.  Hang brought us all these fabulous hats...and I mean FABULOUS!  we wore them all day long!  We may look a little cowgirl, but we were happy!

I love the time we get to spend together!

Summer ramblings

I sat here tongiht working on a five page paper for a class I'm taking. It's seems like so long ago that I used to whip out papers and process how I could improve my teaching.  I took some time tonight and processed what I was doing, then, I thought, "Why do I spend so much time trying to be a better teacher?"  Sometimes it becomes almost an obsession.

I looked at my kids tongiht--before I sent them to watch t.v. with their dad so I could watch The Bachelorett---and I thought, Why don't I have the same desire to read up on parenting, spend time processing how I can tweak one thing to make it better, or do somethng to change a problem area.

I want to be the best I can be in all that I do, but maybe today I'm realizing it's too much.  So...where do my priorities lie?  Where do I spend my time and my minutes?

I love my kids so much, but can I do better?  Probably...

Well...there's a rambling huh?

Our Lap Dog...No other words are needed

Our newest little biker...and her cheering section

Kaelyn learned to ride her bike last year, but never liked it.  In fact, at one point she had us put training wheels back on...and then proceeded to ride about one time that way.

Well...a little peer pressure from the neighbor, and guess who's riding again?

What a cutie!  Too bad she still doesn't love it...maybe when she's six!

And Carter...was cheering her on and rocking out!

Love that boy!

Sucked in...

I am loving the blog world. It's so intriguing to be able to peek into the lives of so many amazing people.  I can't believe how many times I've been inspired, brought to tears, enlightened, encouraged, and yes, sometimes angered, but the posts of people around the world...many of whom I've never met, and never will meet.

And yet, somehow, we're all entwined in this web of a web. Through a simple media outlet called a blog.  I love that I can follow stories of courage, and faith, and find hope.

What a blessing to live in a time where we can be connected, even if for a minute.

Just my thoughts...

Friends!

Hang and Josh were staying at a local hotel, so we all met up to go swimming at their hotel!  The kids had a BLAST, and it was a great gear up for summer!

Our Doggy doll

This dog may not be perfect, but he sure can be perfectly patient...

Seriously???

Doesn't he look like he's ready to go shopping?  It cracks me up!

Kathryn gets into the act...

Good boy Tate!
